Independent Chair: Derby Poverty Commission
In response to the growing levels of poverty within Derby, which accelerated on the back of the pandemic, a group of individuals from across public, private, faith and voluntary sectors took the decision to establish Derby’s first Poverty Commission, completely independent. Building on a national framework of Poverty Commission’s across the UK, Derby established their own in January 2021.
It has played a vital role in keeping poverty at the forefront of conversations, including establishing a dedicated cost-of-living crisis steering group, two child Poverty Summits, a Poverty Truth Commission & development of a poverty strategy.
Derby Poverty Commission brings together a cross-section of individuals and organisations who bring together strategic insight and experience to help challenge, advocate & develop ways to address key areas of poverty within the city.
The current Chair is stepping down after over 5 years in the role, and the Poverty Commission is looking to recruit their replacement. Due to the independent nature of this voluntary role, it is a unique opportunity for someone who meets the role and specification to tackle forward.
