Derby Diverse Carers Alliance

Our goal is to ensure that all carers, especially those from different backgrounds and experiences, are heard, supported and respected.

Why this matters

Many carers face challenges because of their identity. This includes, for example, carers who are d/Deaf, from ethnic minority backgrounds, from the LGBTQ+ community, living with a learning disability or experiencing mental health issues. They may find it harder to get the help they need. We want to change this. 

Our vision

We aim to create better support for all carers in the city by listening to their real-life experiences and working together to improve services.

Our 5 main objectives

• To co-produce carer support strategies based on community insights and feedback.
• To ensure engagement with carers from diverse and under-represented communities.
• To foster cross-sector collaboration and shared learning.
• To influence service commissioning and delivery through evidence-based recommendations.
• To support system-level changes that benefit all carers, particularly those not currently accessing support.

Derby Diverse Carers Engagement Project

The engagement project is at the heart of our work. We are giving small grants to organisations that will engage with carers from diverse backgrounds and help us better understand the challenges they face.

The Alliance will:

• Support and connect these organisations
• Share what we learn across the city.
• Use these insights to help create new ways of supporting carers.
• Build strong partnerships between carers and service providers.
