Who can receive support from the Good Neighbours programme?
At the moment, only people who are being supported by the Social Prescribing Team at Community Action Derby are eligible to receive help from the Good Neighbours programme. We are not currently accepting self-referrals or referrals from any other organisations or services. You can find out more about our Social Prescribing programme here, including who can access the service and how to do that.
Who can become a Good Neighbour volunteer?
The only requirements to become a Good Neighbour are:
- You need to be over the age of 18
- You will need to go through a full Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Other than that, anyone can be a Good Neighbour! You don't need any particular skills or previous experience, and we welcome people from all backgrounds and communities. If you speak a community language, that's a bonus!
What support will I receive as a Good Neighbour volunteer?
We want our Good Neighbours to have the best volunteering experience possible, so we will do everything we can to cater for your needs and preferences, and to support you in any way we can.
Here's what one of our Good Neighbour volunteers said:
“I’ve been volunteering with Good Neighbours for over a year. I recently needed help with an individual I support. The Good Neighbours admin and management team were quick to react and knowledgeable, getting the right help/support for the individual. It gives me comfort knowing there is extra support for the volunteers as well as the users of the programme, just a phone call away.”
Other important information
-
The Good Neighbours scheme does not offer specialist or personal care or play any role that should be left to a professional, qualified or formal support service.
-
Volunteers will not be asked to carry out tasks that are appropriate for suitably qualified tradespeople.
Frequently Asked Questions
You don't need to drive, but it would be helpful for some tasks.
Good Neighbours is a great way of getting involved in volunteering and helping your local community - you can be flexible with how many hours you can give and your help will always make a difference.
That's great! Unfortunately, not everyone is lucky enough to have someone they can turn to for support or help with one-off tasks. This is where Good Neighbours fits in.
Absolutely! As much or as little time as you’re able to volunteer - we’d love to hear from you.
