Providing Safe Homes for Unaccompanied Children

East Midlands Councils (EMC), working with local authorities across the region, is seeking people who can provide safe, stable homes for unaccompanied young people arriving in the UK to seek asylum.

Many of these young people are boys aged 14 to 17 who have travelled alone, fleeing conflict and hardship. They arrive without family and urgently need care, stability, and understanding as they begin to rebuild their lives.

There are two main ways to get involved:

  • Foster care – providing a home for children under 16 (and sometimes older teenagers, depending on their needs)
  • Supported lodgings – offering a room and a supportive home environment for 16 - 17-year-olds.

Anyone with a caring and stable home environment can apply to help in one of these ways. If you’re not in a position to foster or host yourself, you could still make a difference by raising awareness through your own networks, community groups, or faith organisations.

If you or someone you know might be able to help, please visit https://uasc.emcouncils.gov.uk or email Lesley.George@nottscc.gov.uk.

Together, we can give vulnerable young people the chance to feel safe, supported, and hopeful for the future.
