With support and guidance from Community Action, over £80,000 has been awarded to the following voluntary organisations to deliver their projects in the first six months of 2017:
Heritage Lottery Fund - Oral History Project. Surtal Arts was successful in securing £29,000 for a project to record the experiences of community elders of Indian Partition and the Second World War. 600 young people are involved with the project which aims to tell the stories of migration and citizenship making up their culturally diverse local community.
St Edmund's Church
St Edmund's Church secured £10,000 funding from Awards For All to refurbish the church and improve access to make it easier for the congregation and people from the local community to visit.
Derbyshire Chinese Welfare Association
The Association was part-funded to employ a centre co-ordinator to run the day-to-day activities for the centre with. Funding of just under £5000 was awarded from Foundation Derbyshire.
JEM - Jobsearch, Employment and Mentoring
JEM was successful in securing a two year grant totalling £20,000 to deliver a Job Search and Interview Techniques Project. The project will provide employability skills training to help and support refugees and asylum seekers in Derby to improve their future education, training and employment prospects. Ashbourne Road Allotments Association
The ARAA secured funding from Awards For All for £9471 to install two disabled accessible composting toilet units with additional equipment for ease of use by young children. Funding was also used for an aerobic composter to accelerate the process of turning human waste into usable compost within 90 days.
Ashbourne Road District Allotment Association celebrates its 100 year anniversary in 2017 - a celebration event (funded by the award) will be held on Sunday 3 September. For more information contact Julia Slater firstname.lastname@example.org.
Shanti Ladies Group (Derby) - Health Living and Digital Learning Project
Shanti Ladies Group (Derby) has secured funding from Awards For All for £8227. The funding will be spent on IT classes - covering the basics of using a computer, using the internet and learning more about social media, healthy cooking classes - practical cooking sessions around healthy foods and gaining advice from health professionals around nutrition, and health and wellbeing classes - yoga sessions and health talks around acupressure, naturopathy and alternative medicinal beneficial tips.
