Reflections from the Community Iftar 2025

Eid Mubarak to everyone who is celebrating!

In March, for the third year, Community Action supported our local Muslim VCSE groups to host a Community Iftar - a festive celebration of Islamic culture and faith. Open to people from all walks of life, the event focused on embedding unity and celebration. This year, attendees were also invited to experience dry fasting (no food or drink) for the day leading up to the Iftar.

Brett Sentance, one of our Programme Leads, has written a piece reflecting on this year's event, which you can read below.

"Since starting with Community Action Derby back in August 2022, this is my 3rd Community Iftar I have been invited to and what an amazing experience I had once again. From the moment I got there, it was very welcoming, and the room itself was set out beautifully. As people started to arrive, there was such a wonderful energy in the room, which continued throughout and until the end.

A number of people spoke and relayed prayers to everyone at the beginning, which really set the tone of the Iftar. The message that came through for me was about acceptance, hearing people’s voices and love across all communities. If you get the chance to attend an Iftar, go with an open mind, and you will not be disappointed."
