Celebrating a Year of Community Impact: Week 2 – Capacity Building

As we head towards the end of the year, we’re taking time to reflect on the impact we’ve made. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be showcasing our work by exploring the core functions that shape everything we do.

As we head towards the end of the year, we’re taking time to reflect on the impact we’ve made, along with our partners and members, by enhancing life in Derby through voluntary action.

Over the next five weeks, we’ll be sharing highlights from our Annual Impact Report – showcasing the work we do as Derby’s local voluntary sector infrastructure organisation.

Each week, we’ll explore one of the four core functions that shape everything we do. Follow along to see the difference we’ve made and the impact of Derby’s incredible voluntary sector!

Week 2: Capacity Building

Capacity building underpins everything we do — ensuring Derby’s VCSE sector is strong, confident and equipped to support local people.

When local voluntary and community organisations have access to practical support, people and communities become more resilient and able to flourish. We provide training, resources and advice to facilitate this community development.

From April 2024 – March 2025 we:

  • Distributed £1.73 million through 275 grants to 138 groups
  • Hosted 4 voluntary sector forums attended by 179 people
  • Delivered 11 training sessions for 144 learners
  • Held 32 other events, with 824 attendees
  • Reached 174k page views on our website and continued to grow our newsletter and social media reach
  • Launched the Derby Community Lottery to help local good causes raise funds.

Thank you to our funders and partners who make this work possible — together, we’re helping Derby’s voluntary sector thrive!

Help us help your local community!
