As we head towards the end of the year, we’re taking time to reflect on the impact we’ve made, along with our partners and members, by enhancing life in Derby through voluntary action.
Over the next five weeks, we’ll be sharing highlights from our Annual Impact Report – showcasing the work we do as Derby’s local voluntary sector infrastructure organisation.
Each week, we’ll explore one of the four core functions that shape everything we do. Follow along to see the difference we’ve made and the impact of Derby’s incredible voluntary sector!

Week 1: Volunteering
It builds connection, confidence and community, and we’re proud to help make it happen!
Volunteering is integral to thriving communities. We encourage and nurture volunteering opportunities so that people can build connections and work together on things they care about, driving positive change locally.
From April 2024 – March 2025 we:
- Supported 57 community organisations by promoting their volunteering opportunities, helping them reach new audiences
- Shared 147 volunteering opportunities, helping people in Derby find ways to give back and make a difference
- Reached thousands through our social platforms
- Celebrated Derby’s charity champions at our inspiring Derby Voluntary Sector Awards night - with 244 nominations, 18 awards and 150 guests.
Thank you to every volunteer who gives their time, and every organisation that makes volunteering possible. We’ve seen first-hand how volunteers make Derby a better place!
