What have we been up to during lockdown?

Lots of bees on honeycomb

What have we been up to?

We may not have been making honey but we've been very busy!

During lockdown Community Action, together with Derby City Council, Derby Homes, the University of Derby, local NHS, Thrive Derby and linking into Derby Covid 19 Mutual Aid Facebook group, has coordinated help and support for vulnerable people in communities who are self-isolating or shielding during the national crisis.

Our role has been to match up potential volunteers with those people most affected by the crisis - this volunteering role, known as the Good Neighbour role, has been a great success and we have been inundated with offers of help. This has allowed us to focus on people who need support, however big or small, in their immediate local neighbourhood and includes those who may need help with shopping, prescriptions and other small tasks.
We are working with Derby City Council to continue this type of informal, neighbourhood volunteering and will continue to take referrals for people who need support.

If you or anyone you know is interested in becoming a Good Neighbour volunteer then take a look at the Task Description and complete the Registration Form.

If you know anyone who needs support you can complete the Referral Form or contact:

Guidance and Support for your organisation

Our offices at 4 Charnwood Street are closed to visitors but we are all working our normal hours, partly from the offices and partly from home, to deliver our services.

A comprehensive risk assessment has been carried out and all procedures are in place to ensure all our staff and volunteers are safe. If you would like information on any aspect of how we are working, maybe to help your own organisation put new measures in place, then please contact us.

As lockdown restrictions are eased we are looking forward to how we can best support the voluntary and community sector in Derby.  NCVO has a wealth of guidance and resources to support voluntary organisations, free to non members. Click here for information.

MyCommunity is an online platform that has been developed by 12 leading community support organisations that aim to combine their knowledge and skills so that organisations can access community-related support and advice in one place.
