A practical session where you will gain insight and tools to support people with autism in your work.
This session is led by Karen Allen Airey from Spectrumheads CIC, a solely Neurodivergent social enterprise led by those with lived experience of autism and neurodivergence.
By attending this session you will:
- Gain an understanding of what it means to be autistic/neurodivergent.
- Gain insight into the sensory experience of an autistic/neurodivergent person and how this can lead to meltdowns and shut downs.
- Understand how to reduce barriers to your service for autistic/neurodivegent people.
- Adapt your approach and environment to improve outcomes for autistic/ neurodivergent clients.
- Understand the impact of autistic burn out and how to help
- Learn how to support a person who may be having a “meltdown” or "shut down"
- Understand what's important when linking autistic/neurodivergent people into their community
- Know where to go to find quality resources for autistic/neurodivergent people, their carers and loved ones.
