DE23 Active (an Active Through Football project) is a five year programme funded by the National Lottery and supported by The Football Foundation and Sport England to help get the community of Normanton and Arboretum active.
DE23 Active started life as a proposal in late 2020 and through the continued hard work and dedication of its consortium member organisations and the community itself, Derby was finally awarded a grant of £525,000 to run the project in April 2022. The consortium is in constant contact with the community groups, which are split into 3 main groups - Women, Men and the Golden Generation.
DE23 Active will provide funding for local groups to be able to run the fitness sessions, with activities like football, chair based exercise classes and chill and chat sessions (it's not all football!) on offer as well as much, much more. Alongside physical activity, DE23 Active will support the community with training opportunities, a chance to get qualifications and access to practical support through guest speakers and workshops.
We want to:
-
Increase opportunities to access physical activity in a safe and comfortable environment
-
Aid regeneration of open spaces and provide opportunities for training and development.
-
Empower residents to enable positive change in their communities
-
connect them more with football-based activities in a way that best suits their needs,
-
Enable residents to work together with a shared interest.
