Spotlight On: Forget Me Not Dementia Cafe

Our new 'Spotlight On' feature highlights the work of the fabulous local groups and organisations that we support. Over the next few weeks, we will be focusing on the good causes that have signed up to benefit from our new Derby Community Lottery, to let you know more about their great work and how the money raised will support them.

This week’s Spotlight On features Forget Me Not Dementia Cafe!processed-9ED3795D-1B9E-4CFF-B8BD-2FFD50EF3A04.jpeg

Forget Me Not Dementia Cafe is run by Dementia Friendly Oakwood. It provides a safe, welcoming, inclusive space for local people living with dementia and their carers.

At this monthly event, guests enjoy crafts, games, activities, entertainment, outings, refreshments and much-valued peer support. The Cafe offers a fun, happy place that is run entirely by volunteers and free for the guests to attend. Needless to say, it is a very popular group!

The volunteers also organise initiatives like the annual Alzheimer's Society Memory Walk around Oakwood, to raise awareness of the challenges faced by families living with dementia.

It was great to join the guests in some festive activities and to meet the amazing volunteers who work so hard to make the cafe the wonderful space it is.

One guest at the cafe said, "I cannot thank this fantastic family enough, you'll never know the difference you make to our lives."
