Are you committed to improving health services for our communities? Have you ever wanted to understand more about how the NHS is run?
This is your opportunity to get involved in the governance of the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB) as the appointed governor for the voluntary and community sector.
The Council of Governors currently meets six times per year and conducts an Annual Members Meeting, where members receive and consider the Trust’s annual report and accounts, any auditor’s report on Governors and a report on membership.
The Council of Governors meetings are held on a weekday late afternoon and usually last about 2-3 hours – for 2021 and 2022 the meetings are planned to take place on the last Tuesday of the month at 5pm. Meetings are currently being held in the virtual world but will be held in person and onsite once it is safe to do so. In addition to attendance of the meetings, you will also be required to prepare for and read papers provided for each meeting.
Governors have an important role in making UHDB publicly accountable for the services it provides and brings a valuable perspective to all of its activities.
As a governor, you will hold the non-executive directors to account for the performance of the Board of Directors and represent the interests of NHS foundation trust members and the public. You will seek assurance from the non-executive directors of the Trust on how the organisation is run, how it is serving patients and ultimately its impact on the health of local people.
The role is a voluntary unpaid position, but you can reclaim reasonable travel expenses when in-person meetings resume. It is anticipated that your first governor meeting will be on Tuesday 30 November 2021 and that you will also be able to attend a development session on Tuesday 19 October 2021 (5.30pm-7.30pm).
