As an Online Centre, in partnership with Learn My Way, the library now boasts trained volunteer Digital Champions who are on hand to help members of the local community with everything from help with paying bills online to online shopping and accessing local services.
As the doors opened for the first session on Tuesday 12 February the first customer through the doors was Eileen Firth who called in for a support session with Digital Champion Lynn Mitchell. Eileen, who is 80 years young, wanted to find out more about using a mouse and to build her keyboard skills so that she could confidently use her ipad to order her groceries online.
After an initial chat with Eileen, Lynn supported her to go through some of online modules and exercises to build her confidence. Eileen was very pleased with the service and said “Lynn was very knowledgeable and provided an excellent service, she has got me using a mouse and keyboard straightaway. I feel more comfortable knowing I am being supported by a volunteer, I actually feel relieved as I didn’t know what to expect”
Eileen will be back for her second session next week and is looking forward to continuing her digital journey.
Volunteer Digital Champions are on hand to offer support and advice at Spondon Community Managed Library on Monday mornings 10am to 1pm and Tuesday afternoons 1pm to 4pm.
