Derby - a community built on Good Neighbours

5 rows of paper people cut-outs in different colours holding hands

Good neighbours are a vital part of every community and the people of Derby are a shining example of the kindness, compassion and empathy that it takes to make a good neighbour. Never has this been shown more than over the past six months.

Good neighbours have provided vital support to help others affected in many ways by Covid-19 – everything from collecting prescriptions and shopping to dog walking and gardening, together with simply being there on the end of a telephone (or over a fence) for a chat. These acts of neighbourly kindness have proved to be a vital lifeline for many people. And we would love this to continue.

If you have been able to continue your good neighbourly deeds since the easing of lockdown then we want to say a huge thank you - you are making a real difference to people who have been most affected and who still need support to adapt to the ever-changing situation.

At the beginning of the pandemic we had such a fantastic response from people wanting to help in their local communities that not everyone was called upon to get actively involved – in some ways this was a huge positive as it meant that everyone who needed help was getting it. If you were one of the kind-spirited people who offered to help others in the community and are still available, and interested, then please get in touch and we will help you to get involved in your local community.

There is still an ongoing need for help with things such as shopping, medication collection, supportive phone calls, basic home maintenance (changing light bulbs etc.), gardening, meal preparation, simple household tasks, dog walking and supporting people to get the confidence to start getting out and about again.
