Crowdfund Derby success for Derby and Sandiacre Canal Trust

Derby and Sandiacre Canal Trust

Congratulations to the Derby and Sandiacre Canal Trust on exceeding its Crowdfund Derby target raising £4135 to restore the canal to its original route!  The project will now get underway bringing many benefits for the local community.

The campaign kicked off around a week before the official launch with lots of social media activity to let the Trust’s supporters know what was happening - this included a trailer of a video that was made for the Crowdfund page to tell potential supporters all about the campaign.

The DSCT had some fabulous pledges to offer supporters to make them feel part of the project.

Laura Wigg-Bailey, Fundraising Manager for the Trust said that the pledges had proved popular: “We had everything from Trust membership to a private boat trip on the canal and hard-hat tours of the site with afternoon tea - we had planned to offer boat trips in our long-term strategy and this was a great way of road-testing the idea.”

Laura plans to use crowdfunding to raise funds for the Trust in the future. Laura said: “We had a great response from our loyal supporters and members which was fantastic but we don’t want to be asking the same people for each campaign so over the next 12 months we’ll be focusing on our social media channels, growing our audience and reaching out to everyone in the community who could benefit from using the canal and it’s pathways for wellbeing, leisure and commuting.”

The campaign got an extra boost thanks to match-funding from Derby City Council, which has created a fund of £60,000 to help community projects reach their goals.  DCC’s match-funding has recently increased from 25% to 50% - a time-limited offer until the end of September - making a huge difference to organisations that meet the criteria. DCC and Community Action Derby are working together to offer match- funding and support and advice to organisations and individuals wanting to raise money through crowdfunding.

So if you’ve been thinking about starting a crowdfund campaign now is the time to take advantage of the increased match-funding offer from Derby City Council and get your project into shape and launched before the end of September!
