Like so many community projects, Derby Sound volunteer-run radio, part of charity Disability Direct, is playing its part to make a difference during the current crisis by reducing loneliness and amplifying local food banks, support groups, helplines and Mental Health Awareness Week - making radio a force for good in Derby.
Here are some great resources from Derby Sound for local organiations:
Amplify your cause for FREE!
As well as great music, news, topical chat and entertainment, we always love to amplify other local charities and community projects so let us know your news stories - we can even arrange to record an interview with you via zoom. We also broadcast regular 'What's On Guide' bulletins on local activities; for example, we are currently covering online events from Derby Theatre, QUAD, This is Derby youth activities, Artcore Crafternoons, Plot to Plate food-sharing and Extinction Rebellion Derby's virtual campfire and live music gig, so make sure we know about your events so we can tell all our listeners for you!
Reducing loneliness: 74% increase in listeners during lockdown
As reported in the Derby Telegraph, we have seen a big boost in our listeners as more people seek a friendly voice to keep them company, music to ease their minds and to feel connected to their local community at this time. Our volunteers are making radio shows from home, some whilst shielding or isolating themselves, to reduce loneliness, raise awareness of local sources of help during lockdown, and to empower people, including isolated disabled people, with confidence-building radio-making skills training via zoom. Our radio is by the community, for the community, amplifying diverse voices and boosting digital inclusion - be part of it!
Easy Fundraising for your cause
Funding is tough for us all at this time but let us know about your fundraising events and we'll get them on-air! Plus register your charity, sports club, school or cause with easy fundraising UK + raise donations every time you + your supporters shop online! Register now + give your supporters a way to help you for FREE! We're using it to raise funds at our charity and if you register your project via our refer-a-cause link below then both you and us reap the rewards!
We can also offer a radio-making workshop for your team and service users to host a special 'takeover' pop-up radio show on Derby Sound in future - groups that have already had fun doing this include Derbyshire Refugee Solidarity, Sinfonia Viva orchestra, a group of charity reps including Padley & Inspirative Arts at Community Action Derby and a collective of diverse local groups for a #No2Hate Hate Crime Awareness Week special. Let's collaborate to amplify under-heard voices and topics that deserve more airtime!
Meanwhile, fancy recording your own piece (on a smartphone or laptop +mic is fine) about your project for us to play on-air? Send us your recorded interview, announcement or perhaps a special message of thanks and song dedication for your volunteers? You can contact us for any tips to get a good sound.
We look forward to linking up and sharing your news over the airwaves!
