A Celebration of Volunteering - in pictures!

Thank you to everyone who came along to celebrate National Volunteers Week with us at St Martin's Church and Community Centre on 4 June. We were delighted to welcome the High Sheriff of Derbyshire, Lord Burlington, to present the Shining Stars awards to volunteers and organisations for their outstanding contribution to the local community in Derby.

We were treated to a morning of fabulous entertainment - poetry written by Matthew Fowler, a volunteer rap performed by Community Action volunteers and an amazing song and dance performance from Steps for the Future. This was followed by the Shining Stars awards presented by the High Sheriff of Derbyshire, Lord Burlington - who was such a good sport to dance to Mamma Mia with Maggie from Steps for the Future!

With over 150 nominations the panel had a hard time choosing winners and runners-up as everyone was so deserving of an award. The winners and runners-up in each category were:

Conquering Star

Runner-up: Sophie Holland - Derby Homes

Winner: Beryl - Samaritans Derby District 

Runner-up: Malcolm Brown - Treetops Hospice

Active Star

Winner: Wellbeing Space Volunteers

Runner-up: Jessica Firth - Cartoon Heroes

Shooting Star

Winner: Janice Peddle - Padley Group

Runner-up: Mike Wood - Talk English Project

Blazing Star

Winner: Rachel Taylor - Riverside Housing

Runner-up: Beverley Brannan - Phoenix Lunch Club

Future Star

Winner: Harinder Bhinder - Osmaston/Allenton Children's Centre

Runner-up: Asha Pujar - Citizens Advice South Derbyshire & City

We'd like to say a huge thank you to St Martin's Church and Community Centre and Chatterbox Cafe in Flint Street who were such kind and generous hosts and also to our partners at Derby Homes, Direct Help and Advice and Move More Derby - great partnership working! Another mention must go to Carl Willis of Derby City Council who acted as our Master of Ceremonies and kept the morning together and on track.
