Shining a light on Derby's Warm Welcome Hubs for Warm Welcome Week

Decorative

This January, the Warm Welcome Campaign is launching Warm Welcome Week, starting on ‘Blue Monday’ (20 January) to create a surge of warmth and positivity in the coldest week of the coldest month.

In recent years, the phrase ‘Blue Monday’ has been adopted to describe the month’s lowest point. As well as taking its toll on mental health, this long, dark month can be financially difficult, and many households face the stark choice between heating and eating.

Derby's Warm Welcome Hubs provide the city's residents with a free, welcoming warm space, along with a hot drink, a meal, and other support to help with welfare and wellbeing. There are currently 32 Warm Welcome Hubs across the city.

At CA Derby, we administer the grants for Derby's Warm Welcome Hubs, in partnership with Derby City Council and the Department for Work and Pensions. This financial support enables local charities, community groups, churches etc. to support people who may be struggling with the cost of living, as well as offering a place for connection and community.

Councillor Sarah Chambers, Cabinet Member for Cost of Living, Equalities and Communities, said:

"Warm Welcome Spaces are more than just a refuge from the cold; they are places where people can connect, share stories, and find comfort in community. Warm Welcome Week is a fantastic opportunity to brighten up the darkest time of year and remind everyone that no one should face these challenges alone.”
