Youth Volunteering with vinvolved

v funding comes to an end - end of project report available

V involved

It is with sadness that we have to confirm that our v funding will not be continuing from March 2011. Our end of project report can be accessed online by clicking here.

Come along to our celebration best practice event on Feb 24 at the Multi Faith Centre to find out more info.  Flyer here.

v the charity will remain, although there will be a significant restructure and they will no longer be able to support the network of local providers, of which we were one. I'd like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to all the young people and organisations for the input, support and ideas over the last three years. Working in partnership with like minded colleagues over the last three years has helped hundreds of young people into volunteering and has helped the team achieve it's contractual targets.

Whilst there will unfortunately be gaps left by the disappearance of the vinvolved team, it is important that young people are encouraged to seek and try out volunteering. It is clear that many organisations and agencies in Derby can see the tremendous value that volunteering can bring for young people. The decision made by v to keep and manage the vinspired awards is a positive one and we hope that many local organisations signpost young volunteers to the vinspired.com online portal. This is a great opportunity to help young people record their skills and the impact their volunteering is having, both for themselves and the wider community.

The Volunteer Centre in Derby, based at Community Action, will still exist to support people of all ages into volunteering. The Volunteer Centre will also be on hand to continue to offer volunteer management and recruitment support to local volunteer-involving groups.

Youth volunteering survey - winner announced

A big thank you to all of the young people who took part in our youth volunteering survey. The lucky winner drawn at random was Carina from Derby. Well done Carina, a £30 HMV voucher is yours to collect!

The feedback from this survey and from the organisations survey will help us to write our end of project report and to write recommendations for future youth volunteering programmes.

Young Volunteers Survey - complete by 31 December 2010

*ALL ENTRANTS WILL BE PUT IN FOR A PRIZE DRAW: £30 HMV VOUCHER*

As you may know, the vinvolved Derby city team based at Community Action is part of the National Young Volunteers Service funded by the National Charity V. A key aim of the programme is to help young people aged 16-25 into volunteering. You may also be aware that the current programme is due to end in March 2011.

We would like to capture your thoughts and feelings about the service you have received from the Derby city team. Hopefully we helped you in some way to start volunteering. We may have spoken to you at school, college, university or in a youth group about the benfits of volunteering. You may have been in to see us one-to-one at our centre on Charnwood Street. We may also have helped you to gain some recognition for your volunteering via the vinspired awards such as the thank you, vfifty or the vimpact award.

Either way we'd love to hear from you so please complete our survey - link below, your feedback will help us to develop future volunteering support for young people in Derby. It shouldn't take you more than 10 minutes or so http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Q238Q8C

Many thanks,

Simon, Thom and the Youth Action Team (YAT)

A bit of background about v...

Since the publication of the Russell Commission report in March 2005 that recommended a step change in youth volunteering, a brand new youth led charity has come in to being. This independent charity championing youth volunteering in England is called v.

v has been set up to inspire a new generation of 16 to 25 year olds to get involved in volunteering and community action. v is led by the cares, interests, passions and beliefs of young people.

v is committed to enabling a lasting change in the quality, quantity and diversity of youth volunteering. Their aim is to create a culture where it is natural for young people to volunteer, and natural for organisations to support them in doing so, because the benefits of volunteering are widely understood and celebrated.

As part of this initiative, v has created vinvolved teams. vinvolved teams are experts on the ground who provide high quality support, advice and guidance to young people and organisations interested in engaging young volunteers. The teams also work with young people in their local area to champion youth-led action and recruit Youth Action Teams - ambassadors to champion volunteering and inspire their peers to volunteer.

Community Action hosts the vinvolved Derby City team, which comprises a Youth Volunteer Development Manager and a Youth Volunteer Adviser - two full time posts. They both work with young people and organisations. The team also includes a Youth Action Team (YAT). The YAT is a team of young volunteers aged 16-25 who promote and influence youth volunteering in Derby. Check out the YAT page for more info.
