Store Wars

The sun was shining for a great start to Charity Store Wars Derby on 1 June - the start of National Volunteers' Week. Seven charity shops were teamed up with seven local businesses to see which team could raise the most money for each charity shop - teams could be as creative as they wished!

The Shelter/Motorpoint team opted for full Star Wars dress complete with light sabres - they also had a competition to guess the amount of footballs packed into a car with great prizes of shopping vouchers!

Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance was teamed up with AKS Residential - an estate agency owned and run by Andrew Sanderson, he and colleague Ben Dunn were keen to beat the previous takings record for the shop on the day, which currently stands at £800.

British Heart Foundation and PXtech - a company that develops business intelligence systems around the world - offered CPR training on the day with interactive dummies and video instruction. They were also joined by the BHF's giant red heart character and a sea of red balloons!

Lighthouse was teamed up with Marks and Spencer Distribution Centre's Business Involvement Group (BIG) based at Castle Donnington.  The team invested in a make-up artist to offer free face painting and had lots of samples of Marks and Spencer food and drink on offer to tempt people in to the shop. Once inside there were some great discounts on M&S end of line products.

The Padley Group was teamed up with Rock Fall (UK) - manufacturers of safety footwear - who used their contacts in the footwear industry to offer brand new high end shoes at just £10 per pair at the charity shop. Rock Fall work in partnership with Shoe Aid CIC donating over 800 pairs of safety footwear to date to charity.

Derbyshire Mind and Derby Homes teamed up offering cup cakes and sweets to entice people into the shop. Derby Homes staff donated over 30 bags of clothes, shoes etc. to the Derbyshire Mind shop on the day and have now placed containers in their offices to collect on a regular basis as a result of Charity Store Wars Derby.

Life charity shop teamed up with Blue Arrow Recruitment Agency to offer cakes and raffles on the day.
