Future Jobs Fund

Future Jobs Fund

Community Action has been working in Derby for 37 years and has considerable experience in delivering employment support initiatives. For the past 11 years, Community Action has successfully delivered the Voluntary Sector option for the New Deal programme covering New Deal 18 to 24 and 25 plus.

Community Enterprise, as part of Community Action Derby, will run the Future Jobs Fund programme with a number of key partners:

Derby City Council;

Derby City Partnership;

Jobcentre Plus;

Derbyshire LSC; and

Derby College

Our partners will help to deliver the project and ensure it is a success.

How will the scheme run in Derby

Community Enterprise has won a tender to deliver this scheme in Derby city. From October 2009, we will work with local employers to create a total of 212 jobs in Derby by March 2011. We will deliver this through a job brokerage and support package. We will ensure that young people are matched with a suitable employer and continue to be employed for the duration of the initiative and beyond.

Each Future Jobs Fund employer will be supplied with a manual on good recruitment and employee development as well as regular support from our experienced staff team.

Referrals must come from Jobcentre Plus, as they will determine whether or not the young person is eligible. They are then referred to us for matching.

The newly created jobs will be in social enterprises; green initiatives; the public sector; and the third sector and will provide a range of new

opportunities.

What is the Future Jobs Fund?

The Future Jobs Fund is a fund of around £1billion to support the creation of jobs for long term unemployed young people and others who face significant disadvantage in the labour market.

The money from the fund is to be spent between October 2009 and March 2011. The fund is run by the Department for Work and Pensions in partnership with the Department for Communities and Local Government and with input from Jobcentre Plus and Regional Government Offices in England.

From October 2009, the Government is committed to providing everyone between the ages of 18 and 24, who has been looking for work for six months, the offer of a job, work experience or training lasting at least six months.
