Voluntary Sector Leadership
Election News: The voting is now closed and the following have been elected to serve on the Voluntary Sector Leadership Group for a term of two years starting in September.
Kim Harper, Community Action and Janet Holland, Children and Young People's Network have been re-elected alongside Alasdair Kay, Derby City Mission and Keith Jeffrey, QUAD. Kim and Keith will also represent the sector at the DCNP Leadership Board.
At the recent meeting thanks were expressed to George Mighty for the contribution he has made to the group over the past few years.
The remaining members of the group are:
- Ed Green from Derbyshire Wildlife Trust;
- Paul Pegg from Mackworth Estate Community Association;
- John Bowie from the University of Derby.
The members of the group who also sit on the DCNP Leadership Board are:
- Janet Tristram from the St James Centre; and
- Hazel Simpson from Family Action
Aim
This group will work to improve the position of the voluntary and community sector in Derby, working to ensure a thriving sector is able to best meet the needs of the communities of Derby.
Duties and Responsibilities
The group will:
- Advocate for the Sector, promoting it as a means of increasing social inclusion and reducing poverty
- Represent the Sector at partnership meetings, specifically DCNP Board
- Consider the broad issues faced by the Sector and, where possible, developing responses to these issues
- Inform the wider sector of proposed developments to support it, from Community Action and other bodies
- Act as a critical friend to Community Action, ensuring appropriate support services are being delivered to the sector
- Liaise with Community Action Board of Trustees to inform the development of services
Next Meeting:
This will take place on 4th October when the main item on the Agenda will be a review of the Strategic Action Plan for the Voluntary and Community Sector in Derby.
