Under the Government's new legislation LINks will become Healthwatch in April 2013.  This will be achieved by Healthwatch Derby carrying forward existing LINk functions.  In addition, strengthening the ways in which commissioners and providers take the views and experiences of patients and the public into account when designing and commissioning health and social care services.  Healthwatch shall be asked to deliver on new responsibilities to provide advice and information as well as signposting people to navigate their way round the health and social care system.

Healthwatch Derby will feed into Healthwatch England.  Healthwatch England shall advise the NHS Commissioning Board, English Local Authorities, Monitor and the Secretary of State for Health.  The new legislation provides powers to Healthwatch England to recommend that action is taken by the Care Quality Commission where there are concerns about health and social care services.
